What's worse? Having one of the highest payrolls in baseball for about a decade and having 1 Mickey Mouse Championship to show for it? Or just not making the playoff so you don't rip the heart out of the fans chest yet again? Every single year the Dodgers are picked as World Series contenders and usually winners, they have a top farm system every year and some of the top superstars in MLB and can't seem to win a "Real" Championship. Not having their Ace Walker Buehler for the year has hurt but injuries happen to every team and usually the Dodgers don't skip a beat..........in the regular season. But when October hits these guys turn into the Dallas Cowboys which is all expectation and zero chance of coming through when it matters. But with the early exit from the playoffs again that just means they'll be active in Free Agency to right the ship, or at least try.
Clayton Kershaw is a lock to be a first ballot Hall of Famer, but this guy is a playoff dud!!
His playoff stats are:
13-13
4.49 ERA
1.11 WHIP (Not Horrible)
9.86 K/9
2.36 BB/9
💩.💩💩 Clutch Rating
For a mid rotation guy these stats aren't terrible, but for a pitcher who is arguably the best of his generation these number are shit!!! We don't know what the future holds for Kershaw as he signed a 1 year deal last offseason for $20m and I don't see him ever wearing another jersey. Last year there was talk of Kershaw possibly retiring, as a huge baseball fan I don't want to see him go out like he did after his last start but he can retire today and be in Cooperstown in 5 years. He has nothing left to prove as a player, on his resume he is a
- 10x All Star
- 3x NL Cy Young Award Winner
- 2014 NL MVP
- World Series Champion (Mickey Mouse Title but still counts)
- Triple Crown (2011)
- Gold Glove Winner (2011)
- Roberto Clemente Award Winner
- 3x NL Wins Leader
- 5x NL ERA Leader
- 3x NL Strikeout Leader
- No Hitter
One replacement for a possible Kershaw retirement the Dodgers will be part of the Ohtani Sweepstakes, which the Dodgers are in very good shape to offer him the most and by most I don't mean just money. They can offer a winning tradition that always seems like they are a player away but this guy is basically 2 players (not in 2024 but I expect Shohei to sign a long term deal) They can also offer him not having to move and stay in Los Angeles, and then lastly a fuck ton of money!!! As +275 Favorites to land Ohtani the only thing that can stop it is the fact they can't win the big one, and Shohei has said he wants to be part of a Championship team, he already knows he will set records with the money he will make but Championships man way more to him. Imagining a team with Ohtani, Betts, Freeman is pretty scary but as we can see from this past year money means shit!!! The most expensive teams don't always win, the best TEAM always wins.
