The one player we all were waiting for to come off the board this offseason has finally signed, we all knew where he was going (except Jon Morosi) but we all wanted to see how much he was going to get...Well, every expert out there assumed they were in the ballpark saying he would sign for between $450m-$550m and they were all off by about $150m which is insane to think about, only 1 person had hit it right on the head and that person is @BaseballDoesntExist who not only makes great YouTube videos on his channel but he is also one part of the Baseball is Dead Podcast with Jared Carrabis. The greatest thing is Ohtani made sure he broke the news first, he also totally used a google image he copy and pasted for the Dodgers logo which was hysterical 🤣
Basically you're paying for a top pitcher and one of the top offensive players in MLB, so about $35m on each side, but that's not much when you think about how much this one player can bring in, jersey sales alone could cover at least half this contract. But Ohtani helped out the Dodgers Organization as well as himself with the structure of the deal........
The whole contract is insane and how MLB approved this was more insane, but they found a loophole and used it to their advantage, and who i'm talking about is the Dodgers,CAA and Ohtani himself, who apparently came up with this idea so his new team could still go out and spend money as if he didn't just break the most lucrative deal in sports history....that's right SPORTS HISTORY!!! Not just baseball. This man will be deferring $680m of his $700m which means he will be making only $2m a year for 10 years but don't feel too bad for him because this guy makes about $30m-$40m a year off the field so he can afford to structure his deal this way and then reside in Florida after the 10 years and pay $0 in income tax, not only is this guy one of the best baseball players we'll ever see in our lifetime but he's also a smart fucker and so is Andrew Friedman.....
Not only did Friedman sign this generational player and boost their already high odds of winning the World Series, but he also secured his job for at least the next 10 years!!!! Having an opt-out for Ohtani if Owner Mark Walter or Friedman are no longer with the Dodgers Organization. This is why the Dodgers are the Dodgers, and they aren't done yet because they are also looking at big trade which includes Tyler Glasnow, and are still in on the most coveted top pitching free agent Yoshinobu Yamamoto and top bullpen arm Josh Hader.
Are the Dodgers the new most hated baseball team out there? I guess we will all find out soon.
