Punch's Pile On...Week 8 Takeaways

Even with 1 game left tonight we can say Week 8 has been an exciting one, except if you are a fan of the NY Giants. The week started with Buffalo continuing to string their fan base along with a win against Tampa Bay, just delaying the inevitable standard they have set of coming up short in the next big game they play in. Sunday ended with Justin Herbert leading the Chargers to a victory over the Bears. In between we had a victory by Will Levis (238- 4 TD's) in his 1st NFL start , the Eagles toy with us & the Commanders for a half then go on to a 38-31 victory led by arguably the best WR currently AJ Brown (8 Rec-130 yds- 2 TD). But now it's time to get into my Top 3 takeaways from Week 8 in the NFL:

Did Kirk Cousin's Injury end the Vikings season?

At this point it's "officially not official" that Kirk Cousins tore his ACL in yesterday's win over the Packers. This is a huge blow for a team that has now won 3 in a row, and 4 of their last 5. I for one do not believe this streak will continue with Jaren Hall (3/4 23yds) as the Vikings QB for the rest of the season. If I am the Vikings I'm making calls to non-contending teams with veteran QB's possibly available (Ryan Tannehill?) knowing I possibly get J.J. back in a few weeks and could have a legitimate shot at the playoffs. If they stand put with Hall I don't believe Jefferson plays again this year and I think the Vikings season is over. Going to be interesting in Minnesota leading up to 4pm tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Patrick Mahomes is Human

Patrick Mahomes played with flu-like symptoms, yet still threw for double as many yards (241-114) as Russell Wilson. But ultimately it was not enough because Wilson threw 3 TD's and won the game .Throwing for 241 yds and 2 INT was not going to get the job done yesterday and when Mahomes plays like an average human and your running game only manages 62 yards you are going to lose games. Mahomes lost for the first time in 16 games to the Broncos, and his first road game to a division opponent. The haters & one particular attention seeker will try and blame it all on Mahomes, but it wasn't at all his fault alone. The Broncos ran 40 times for 153 yds made the plays on defense to win the game, the Chiefs didn't. I see this as a bump in the road for a very good Chiefs team, and now they are off to Germany for a huge Week 9 matchup with the Dolphins.

Will Levis time in Tennesse

With all the QB injuries in Week 8 ( Cousins, Matt Stafford, Kenny Pickett, Desmond Ridder, Tyrod Taylor) it's good to hear about a successful 1st start from Levis (238 yds.- 4 TD's) in his first career win over the Falcons. And to top it off he helped DeAndre Hopkins ( 4-130 yds. - 3 TD's) have his best game so far as a Titan, and they fed Derrick Henry to the tune of 22-101. Levis had 5 receivers with multiple receptions, showing he knows how to get everyone involved in the offense. Next up is TNF against the likely Kenny Pickett-less Steelers. Another strong showing by Levis (or a possible trade ) and Tannehill may not have a job in Tennesse once his ankle is fully healed.

This week's honorable mentions first go to the Dallas Cowboys for a dominating win over the Rams, Dak Prescott (304- 4 TD's) and CeeDee Lamb (12 -158 yds- 2 TD's) combined to show why you never pick against Dallas coming off a bye. And the other goes to the team I said should not be labeled a Fraud the Miami Dolphins, powered by the trio of Jaylen Waddle ( 7-121-1 TD) , Tyreek Hill (8-112-1 TD) & in my opinion NFL MVP front runner Tua Tagovailoa (324yds-3 TD's) beat the Patriots 31-17.

Tonight's final game of Week 8 is a MNF football matchup with the Raiders travelto Detroit to take on the Lions. Jared Goff and Co. are a great home team and tonight will be no different, I'm going 28-10 Lions in this one. For my player prop fans how about Detroit TE Sam La Porta with an anytime TD.

Enjoy the game!!!
